The roots of the matryoshka go back to ancient times in Japan. The Ukrainian nesting doll appeared about a hundred years ago. Her appearance was influenced by folk stories and fairy tales. Usually she is depicted as a Cossack and a Cossack woman in national clothes and related paraphernalia. Hand painted by talented craftsmen. Smaller ones are folded into one doll.
