Backgammon: types and features of the game
Backgammon is a world famous board game for two players. A special playing field, divided into two halves. It has markings, 24 positions, in the form of black and white triangles. In turn, each opponent rolls the dice and rearranges the checkers in as many positions as the numbers fell out. The essence of the game is to pass a whole circle around the playing field with your chips before the opponent.

There are two main variations of this game: long and short backgammon. Their main differences:
1. Initial arrangement: in the first option, players put chips in the positions “twelve” and “twenty-four”, in the second option – two chips in the “twenty-fourth” position, five in the “thirteenth”, three in the “eighth” and five in “ sixth". In total, fifteen chips each for one and the other player.
2. In long – checkers move in one direction, in short – opponents move checkers towards one another.
3. In the long version, you cannot place a checker on a position that is already occupied by an opponent.
4. When six subsequent positions after one player's checker are occupied by another player's checkers, then it is not allowed to move it for any numbers that have fallen. Such a checker is considered "locked". This condition works only in the long version of backgammon.
